8.12 - Siriusmo, Pictureplane & Javelin at 103 Harriet

Posted on July 13th, 2011 12:28 pm

Siriusmo, Pictureplane & Javelin at 103 Harriet Aug 12

Early bird tickets are available now via Eventbrite.

Moritz Friedrich has been remixing and releasing genre-unspecific singles for the past ten years, mixing off-kilter elements of electro-funk, house and bass and stringing them together with unique, melodic sensibilities and obscure vocals. Mosaik, his latest full length album (released on Modeselektor’s Monkeytown) has received considerable praise, giving his unique style and execution much-deserved attention. Siriusmo rarely plays live shows, and this will be his San Francisco debut. The Berlin-dweller has remixed for Boys Noize, Zombie Nation, Simian Mobile Disco, Modeselektor and Digitalism.

Javelin, the eclectic, Brooklyn-based hip hop/electronic duo, released No Mas, on David Byrne’s Luka Bop label last year. Their mix of samples, original work and crazy lyrics has drawn attention to the cousin team of George Langford and Tom Van Duskirk. Self-described as “Party music. But… also mellow,” Javelin is known for consistently delivering high energy performances at live shows.

Denver’s Pictureplane, the project of art school student Travis Egedy, brings a punk mentality to dance music, using lo-fi undertones and various genre references to keep listeners intrigued. His well-received full-length debut, Dark Rift, released on Lovepump Records in 2009 (Health and Washed Out are labelmates). Thee Physical, released earlier this year and co-produced by Health’s Jupiter Keyes, mixes techno, R&B, house and dark rock into unique and danceable tracks.

Support from Krystal Klear, Vin Sol and Charles McCloud.

3.4 - Le Castle Vania & Fukkk Offf at Mezzanine

Posted on February 24th, 2011 9:20 am

OHR & Dionysus Events present DAY ONE featuring Le Castle Vania & Fukkk Offf…

Two of the hardest sounds you will hear from the electronic music scene in one night. We
assume it goes without saying, but have Advil on deck for the morning. The alcohol
won’t be the only thing pounding your brain when these two take stage at San
Francisco’s Mezzanine nightclub on March 4th. We can’t guarantee the local talent
will go easy on you either, so don’t say we never warned you.

Le Castle Vania – With what some would consider a small amount of experience
under his belt compared to some other heavy hitters in the industry, Dylan Eiland is
already well off on the right path. The DJ has cranked out chart topping remixes of
songs by artists like Snowden, Konflict, and Smashing Pumpkins! Also following in
the footsteps of DJs Boys Noize and A?Trak, Le Castle Vania has taken charge of his
own label named Always Never Records. With more artists and remixers being
added to the label regularly, look out for big things to come from this producer.

Fukkk Offf – Coming all the way from Germany just to grace (mild understatement)
your eardrums with his bass drums. We promise it’s much easier to dance to his
music than it is to pronounce his name. Bastian Heerhorst founded his reputation in
Hamburg’s Red Light District with an attitude fitting for his name. With hit tracks
like Rave is King, Fukkk Offf is drawing attention from major artists like Le Castle
Vania (coincidence?) and Congorock.

3.3 - Eskmo at The Independent

Posted on January 13th, 2011 4:24 pm

Hacksaw Entertainment presents Eskmo (Ninja Tune) at The Independent on March 3rd, 2011.

With support from Blackbird Blackbird, oOoOO and DJG.

Tickets are only $15 & available right now online or in person at The Independent Box Office with no service fee.

Brendan Angelides has been making tracks as Eskmo since 1999, recording a series of tracks and remixes for labels like Planet Mu and Warp in recent years, and releasing two acclaimed singles, ‘Hypercolor’ and ‘Angus Dei’, on his own Ancestor imprint in 2009. Eskmo’s won the patronage of fellow Ninja-artist, the legendary Amon Tobin, with whom he’s collaborated as Eskamon, while Flying Lotus hand-picked this kindred spirit to play his Brainfeeder Sessions. Via these channels, he was discovered by Ninja Tune, who swiftly invited Eskmo to join their hallowed ranks and released his debut album.

Widely heralded within the community as one of the most original of a new wave of electronica artists, Eskmo’s eponymous debut album for Ninja Tune finally offers Eskmo a canvas broad enough to create his first masterpiece. Embracing and exploring glitch, dubstep and R’n’B, and layering his own ethereal vocals into the dreamy mix, it’s a fine showcase for everything that has made Eskmo such a whispered-about talent.

BUZZED OUT ELECTRIC BALL · GET YOUR TICKETS RIGHT HERE

featuring special guests…

THE TOXIC AVENGER (IHEART COMIX/France)
While France continues to expand as the dominating powerhouse for electro-dance music, the growing independent dance scene keeps churning out all-night-long party DJs with The Toxic Avenger quickly rising as the premiere Frenchman taking the dance floor to a new level.
Born Simon DeLacroix, the man behind the comic book and B-movie-inspired persona, The Toxic Avenger is notorious for his infectiously catchy, self-produced dance-a-thon tunes, but is equally recognized for his perfected remixes.
Signed to IHEARTCOMIX Records, in 2007, The Toxic Avenger was named by Rolling Stone as “One of the 5 most influential electronic artists of the year” alongside Justice, LCD Soundsystem, Digitalism and Simian Mobile Disco. The same year, he was a finalist in Diesel’s U:Music Awards.

ANGST:ONE feat. Something a la mode by The Toxic Avenger

AUTOEROTIQUE (Dim Mak/Canada)
Autoerotique stores electro, techno, house, Dutch house, Dutch-colonial house, rave, rock, rave-rock, indie-rock and even ska on speed dial and calls them up frequently. Their effortlessly protean, shape-shifting sound can careen wildly from project to project, so it’s not unexpected to hear them transform from Dutch house to, say, Norwegian black metal on the same record – thus, earning them the lazily au courant nick name “Autobots”.
Signing with Dim Mak Records, the Canadian duo of Keith Robertson & David “Dave” Henderson streaked like a tracer bullet through the strobe-lit sky of the international dance community with their official first single Gladiator featuring remixes by Aoki/AM, Klever, Larry Tee/Alexander Technique, The Faint, AC Slater & Milano.
Following the Gladiator EP, Autoerotique showed off the many colourful arrows in their musical quiver releasing remixes for Lykke Li, Shinichi Osawa, Chris Cornell & Timbaland, Diplo & Laidback Luke, Larry Tee, B. Rich, Disco Bisquits, Fischerspooner and Weezer.

GIRLS N BOOMBOXES
Girls n Boomboxes is a San Francisco based electro rock, electro house duo. Jason Kiser is an american sound engineer who started his career mixing and mashing hip hop. Harald Boyesen is a Swedish producer who started writing and recording music at age 16. Together, they create music for the dance floor with their one official release “Pink Astronaut”.

9.18 - Pantha Du Prince at The Independent

Posted on August 25th, 2010 11:12 am

Hacksaw Entertainment presents Pantha Du Prince at The Independent on Saturday, September 18th.

Pantha Du Prince doesn’t make it to the USA often enough. The German electronic music wizard released his third album on Rough Trade called Black Noise earlier this year. The album features guest vocals by Panda Bear and bass by Tyler Pope of LCD Soundsystem/!!! which helped him win the coveted Pitchfork ‘Best New Music’ award. Animal Collective even remixed one of his tracks!

You can stream the entire album Black Noise on the Rough Trade website!

Support comes from The Sight Below a shoegaze/techno act out of Seattle. All of The Sight Below’s songs are performed live: The artist runs E-bowed, slide, and lightly picked guitars through a series of loopers, 12-bit reverb boxes, and delay units, kneading and distending the notes until they drone like bees in a tunnel or keen like an orchestra of singing saws.

Tickets are still available from either The Independent Box Office (with no service charge) or online at Ticketweb.

9.11 DJ Ayres of The Rub at Som

Posted on August 18th, 2010 3:36 pm

Hacksaw Entertainment & Rock It Sciences present:  DJ Ayres of The Rub at Som on Saturday, September 11th 2010.

Originally from Mississippi, DJ Ayres is famous for being the founding father of The Rub, the Brooklyn monthly party that swiftly gained a reputation for being “The Best Party in NYC” (New York Press) back in 2002 and to this day remains one of the staples of NYC nightlife. Combining everything from 80’s pop and disco to house, reggae and hip-hop, The Rub provides “something for everyone, no matter what you’re into,” (resident Cosmo Baker) and in the process helped launch DJ Ayres into worldwide consciousness as one of the best mixtape-making, party dj’s around. Further cementing his status as a key player in American club culture is the fact that Ayres has released over 20 remixes, both on his own T&A label plus Money Studies, GAMM, ESL, Scion A/V and more.

Support from Rock It Sciences founder Eric Sharp and of course our very own Shane King.

SOM is the new “go-to” spot in the heart of the bustling, ultra-hip Mission district. Posted on August 2nd, 2010 6:39 pm

Hacksaw Entertainment presents Jimmy Edgar (live) at Rickshaw Stop.

The Detroit based electronic music producer signed to Warp Records is finally making his way to the Bay. His new album ‘XXX’ just came out on K7 records and he’s embarking on a world tour to support it. His music is described as a blend of jazz, funk, techno and house and despite being 25, he’s a veteran of the electronic music scene. He played his first raves when he was 15 in warehouses in Detroit, and was signed by Warp Records at just 18. Safe to say the guy knows how to throw down a party.

Posted on May 7th, 2010 7:54 pm

Hacksaw Entertainment, Parallels, & Scion present the SF debut of Carte Blanche (Ed Banger)

Four decks, one mixer, and a TR 909, of course. No bangers, strictly house music.

DJ Mehdi from Paris and the UK’s Riton recently teamed up to form a supergroup of house music called Carte Blanche.  Busy P heard the results and immediately signed the group to Ed Banger records, for a 5-track EP called Black Billionaires out on May 31st.

Mehdi has spent the last 4 years touring the world with Justice and A-Trak, and remixing the likes of Santigold and Busta Rhymes, all while producing his own tracks and releasing an album on Ed Banger.

Riton is a veteran Newcastle DJ with the Radio Soulwax family, who has  remixed LCD Soundsystem and Crookers, and took the number one spot in the Kraut Rock charts in 2008 with his Eine Kleine Nacht Musik project on Modular Records.

Together they are Carte Blanche - Think of them as Europe’s answer to Duck Sauce.  All house music, all night long! Support from White Girl Lust LIVE (Solid Bump) and Shane King (Hacksaw).

Telephoned LIVE (Fool’s Gold) at Harlot · FREE · 4.28

Posted on April 11th, 2010 2:39 pm

Hacksaw Entertainment presents Brooklyn’s Telephoned, a new venture from Sammy Bananas (Fool’s Gold) and Maggie Horn (Good Peoples). “We’re like a cover band, but better!”

Telephoned was created when New Yorkers Sammy Bananas and Maggie Horn decided to recreate their own version of T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe It.” Neither a cover or a remix, the recording took subtle elements of the original and tweaked it into something entirely new, a track that shone in both on the dance floor and the radio (LA’s Power 106 for example). The hybrid sound is “Bottle service electro meets Triplets Of Belleville!”, as Maggie Horn puts it. ”Can’t Believe It” was such a success the duo went on to create an entire album of songs entitled “Off the Hook”, as well as an additional Telephoned EP on the forward thinking Fool’s Gold Records.

But don’t take our word for it. With the thousands of acts in Austin this year, Pitchfork’s Amy Phillip’s described Telephone’s performance at SXSW as “the most fun thing I’ve seen at SXSW so far.”

Download the entire “Off the Hook Mixtape” at RCRD LBL. Enjoy!

Sammy Bananas will be playing special DJ set as well. Additional support from White Girl Lust (Solid Bump Records) and Shane King (Hacksaw).

Oh, did we mention this event is FREE and there will be lots of FREE VODKA until 10?
RSVP required at http://www.metrowize.com/004 for free entry and free booze!

Javelin, Tussle, & Bronze at The Rickshaw Stop - 5.6

Posted on March 30th, 2010 6:48 pm

Hacksaw Entertainment proudly presents Brooklyn based duo Javelin, San Francisco’s Tussle (who we’ve thankfully not yet lost to Brooklyn’s allure), and the hypnotizing drums/electronics group Bronze.

Javelin’s self-released LP, entitled Jamz n Jemz, is but one element of Tom van Buskirk and George Langford’s DIY approach to art and performance. The first label release, featuring silkscreened thrift store sleeves, the live performance often assisted be a twenty boom-box ’soundsystem’ to help transmit strange frequencies, and the layered, intricate, sample-based tracks, are all testament to Javelin’s commitment to quality and detail. The finely crafted collection of lost rhythms and eccentric bits of crate-dug sounds remind the listener of nostalgic nights toying with the radio dial, while warmly assuring us that the art of sampling is very much alive and well.

Support from O.K. Hole DJs.
